We are very sorry to announce that Derek Munson died peacefully at Pinehurst care home on Monday 22nd October.
Derek first came to Sevenoaks in 1958 having played a lot of his hockey with Old Bordenians and on various RAF postings. He played for the next few seasons, mainly in the Club’s 2nd XI before being posted overseas again. He returned in the early 70’s and, for nearly 20 years, he was a pillar of the Club’s lower XIs, working hard to make sure that there was hockey for anyone who wanted to play. Retiring from playing he took up umpiring which he did in the same selfless manner for the next 10 years. Through his unfailing good humour and gentle kindness, he made a massive contribution to hockey at Sevenoaks – not to mention being the father and grandfather of at least two further hockey-playing generations. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Members and friends wishing to attend the funeral are asked to contact Jane Bramwell or Sarah Pearson for further details.
