Ladies 045 march on to the Semi Final of the National Cup
Sevenoaks 045 Ladies are in the semi final of the National Masters Cup after defeating Bishops Stortford on Sunday 11th Feb. We are reigning champions of the cup so are pleased to reach the semi final where it is possible they will face Cambridge Chester or Redlands. They are very familiar with these teams and anxiously await whether we get a home draw.
Oaks started brightly despite some of them dancing to several 80’s numbers the night before but we think this might of been in their favour as helped loosen the leg and thigh muscles.
Ruth Bingham caused mayhem down the right with her speed and skill and Bishop Stortford struggled to cope wth her pace. The first goal came from a Panda penalty corner. It appeared to take Bishops Stortfords defence by surprise and the ball found its way into the corner of the goal. Soon after, a fantastic precision pass by Pia Tucker found Ruth Bingham on top of the D who calmly rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home. 2-0. The third came towards the end of the first half again Ruth storming around the back for Sarah Pinkstone to slam it home from 2 yards! B Stortford midfield and forwards worked tirelessly but the calm defensive work of Dawson, Wolff, Shrimpton, Walton and Burnham thrawted any idea that they might of had of getting a goal. Amanda Bishop, Kelly, newcomer to the Vets team Emma Grice supported the forwards well and as the half time whistle went it felt a well deserved 3 nil lead was earned.
Nic Hollomby gave her all and was unlucky not to get on the scoresheet in the second half. Sarah Pinkstone made a nuisance of herself and worked hard in the midfield and on the forward line with Pia Tucker causing them pain on the left with her one handed trickery and Janine Nicholls contributing down the right hand side.
No more goals came in the second half as Bishop Stortford pushed hard to get back into the game and whether the dancing took its toll or other factors it remained 3-0 but thats enough to get us through to the semi finals and perhaps….just perhaps another final. We can dream.
