Mens 1st XI Match Report for the weekend.
Reading 6 v 0 Sevenoaks
Sevenoaks succumbed to a heavy defeat to Reading on Saturday evening in the England Hockey Premier League.
Despite making a strong start to the game, having plenty of possession and territory, Oaks went into the half time break 2-0 down after a scrappy penalty corner conversion gave Reading the lead, which they then doubled before the break with a second penalty corner goal. Any chance of an Oaks comeback in the second half was extinguished by an early goal for Reading to make it 3-0. As Oaks chased the game they left themselves open at the back and Reading were able to capitalise, extending their lead to 4-0 in the 43rd minute. Sloppy mistakes in the final 10 minutes saw Oaks concede a couple more goals to see the final score 6-0 to Reading. Oaks will be looking to improve at home against Holcombe next weekend on Sunday.
On Sunday Sevenoaks exited the National Cup competition to local rivals Oxted after a 6-3 defeat. Mike Barber gave Oaks an early 1-0 lead but a terrible remainder of the first half saw Oaks trail 5-1 at half time. An Andrew Ross drag flick goal gave some hope of a comeback in the second half, but Oxted replies with a penalty corner of their own to make it 6-2. A late penalty stroke goal for Ross made the final score 6-3.
