Restructuring of SHC and your new Board members

Dear member of Sevenoaks Hockey Club,

Sevenoaks Hockey Club has undertaken some significant organisational changes over the past few months. Having previously operated as two Clubs with three individual sections - Seniors (Ladies’ & Men’s) and Juniors - the club’s future lies in combining these sections to simplify and transform how we operate. Plans for the restructuring were ratified at the AGMs held in September and we are now operating as “OneClub”.

In making this important change, the organisational and governance structure has been amended. However, whilst we are transforming the way we organise ourselves, our mission remains unchanged; to cultivate talent and aspiration in anyone who loves hockey by developing players and leaders, encouraging participation, and building community through lifelong friendships.

Sevenoaks Hockey Club will be incorporated as a Charitable Company, Limited by Guarantee. This will replace the two Community Amateur Sports Clubs which were previously governed by a General Management Committee and a Junior Committee. The newly appointed Board has assumed responsibility with effect from 1st October.

It’s well known that Sevenoaks Hockey Club has a proud and rich legacy which the new Board is committed to continue. It is an exciting time for all as we shape our great club’s new future.

Iain Pearson
President

Introducing our new Board members:

Amanda Manuel - Chair

Parent of a hockey mad teenager, who started playing in the under 10s and is now an under 18. As Junior Section treasurer for 3 seasons, I’ve been a member of the finance committee looking at club wide finance matters. Towards the end of 2019, I offered the Club my professional expertise in strategic planning and change management to help navigate a governance review. This has resulted in the new OneClub structure, and provides a guiding vision for the next 10 years. I am excited to chair this new Board and help shape the next chapter of SHC’s development.

Pete Barker - Head of Hockey

Over 22 years at the club as a player, Junior coach, Ex-President of the Junior section, former Men’s section Chair and currently Men’s 1s Manager, Umpire and Chair of the Vets Festival Committee. Proud father of twins Chris and Nick who have been at the club since age 5 and play in the Men’s 1s where Chris is currently Captain. Having sat on most of the Club committees over the years I feel I have a thorough knowledge of the history and DNA of our club, its family ethos and desire to achieve success at all levels and in all our teams. I have always believed that success in our top teams drives success throughout the club. I am a Doctor by Profession and Director of a Healthcare Provider in Bromley. It’s a huge privilege to take on this Board role as Head of Hockey and will do all I can to help further develop our great club.
