This is a call to the SHC community to take part in our lockdown virtual challenge!

All coaches, umpires, managers, players and parents, volunteers, and SHC alumni from years gone – you are all invited to participate!

“Ubuntu” is a Zulu word that literally means “I am because we are”. It describes a common philosophical feeling of humanity and family. Fitting for this virtual OneClub challenge.

The challenge starts at Hollybush, from where we’ll be clocking up an ambitious 18,000km down to Cape Town, South Africa! Our virtual route will meander through 20 countries (France, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria, Jordan, Israel, Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia), sometimes crossing large bodies of water, before finally reaching the West Coast of South Africa from where we’ll embark on the final stretch down to Cape Town. Run, walk or cycle, whatever works for you!

We set off on 11 November and aim to reach our final destination by 10pm on 30th of November.

Rules:

  • Distance covered will be tracked per club team (i.e. Ladies 6s, U12 girls, Mens 1s).
  • For junior teams (U8 to U18), distance covered by parents/guardians will count too! However, parent/guardian distances should not be double counted (cannot be attributed to more than one team).
  • Individual distance data should be sent to your team captain/manager or alternative team nominee.
  • Team captains/managers or nominees should send collated team data to Lielie at: lielie.botes@sevenoakshockey.club daily, or for each 100km completed, whichever works best.
  • Please clearly identify yourself / your team, total distance travelled in relation to that reporting date, and date on which reported. For example: Ladies 6s – 105km – 14/11/2020.
  • If you are not affiliated with a particular club team (i.e. a non-playing volunteer or club official), then email your distance data directly to lielie.botes@sevenoakshockey.club.
  • Total distance traveled by all teams taking part in the challenge will be tracked daily, with regular social media updates showing progress, and shout-outs for teams doing particularly well.
  • Have fun!
