This weekend Sevenoaks made the first of their two away trips down the M4 to play against Team Bath Buccaneers. After a disappointing display the previous Saturday, the game started with Sevenoaks playing the ball around with more confidence through the pitch.
New addition to the team Ryan Mann won the ball from a Bath midfielder and played the ball forward to Ben Selby, who then forced a good save from the Buccaneers keeper. This early pressure, though promising, did not produce any goals and it was Bath who first took the lead. A rare breakaway down the Sevenoaks right hand side and Bath won their first short corner and then converted the resulting flick.
Sevenoaks did not let their heads drop and reacted positively producing a period of relentless pressure on the Bath defence. The scores were quickly leveled though when Alex Salmon stepped up to convert a short corner high into the net past the Bath keeper's hand.
At 1-1, the game was tightly contested with both teams trying to move the ball quickly through a congested midfield. Some resolute defending from man of the match candidate Kieran Walton kept the Bath forwards at bay, snuffing out numerous opportunities in the second half.
With both teams fighting for all three points, it made for a hotly contested final quarter. Sevenoaks were still moving the ball around with high ball pace, and from quick movement and a defence splitting pass from Craig Morton, Ben Allberry had a triplet of good chances from the edge of the D saved by the advancing Bath keeper. Though the chances kept coming from both sides, a Bath turnover in the middle of the pitch gave the home side their clearest chance to score as good cover from the Sevenoaks defence and keeper Richard Potton kept the scores level. But all three points were taken by Sevenoaks when Alex Salmon stepped up to convert from a second corner in the 66th minute.
Sevenoaks return to Hollybush Lane next week to welcome Oxford Hawks. The team will aim to bring the good performance seen this week back to the home pitch.
