Sevenoaks faced off against Havant as they looked to secure their first three points of the season. Oaks came out of the blocks flying and after just two minutes Jason Bigara showed some great composure in the attacking D to win Oaks their first penalty corner. Andrew Ross stepped up and crashed the ball into the top right hand corner to give Oaks an early lead.

Unfortunately Sevenoaks promising start was almost immediately cancelled out as Havant managed to pull a goal back off the restart. A speculative long ball bested captain Chris Barker and the subsequent finish from the opposition striker deflected off Oaks newcomer James Beck and into the back of the net.

Sevenoaks were determined not to let their heads drop and quickly re-established themselves at the start of the second quarter. After several phases of patient build up play, Craig Morton fired the ball into the attacking D. David Smith's deflection looked destined for the corner only for a late stick save from the Havant goalkeeper to deny Oaks re-taking the lead. Fortunately for Oaks the ball fell to league stalwart Ben Allberry who lashed the ball into the side netting to open his account for the season.

Oaks dominated the rest of the quarter despite being temporarily reduced to ten men following an agricultural tackle in the opposition D by Ali Taylor. Oaks went into half time in control and ahead 2-1.

Oaks picked up where they left off at the start of the third quarter. Some defence splitting passes from former captain Tim Warrington created several golden opportunities, the latter of which was coolly converted by Jason Bigara. Oaks continued to turn the screw and a further breakthrough came minutes later when an excellent square pass from player-coach Ian Haley found David smith who calmly slotted the ball through for Ed Matts to deflect past the oncoming keeper.

Just as Oaks looked to be on the home straight Havant rallied, capitalising on a couple of minor errors in the midfield to claw two back with less than twenty minutes on the clock. Captain Chris Barker's mistimed tackle gave Havant an opportunity to bring the scores level from a penalty corner but Havant were unable to convert. With Havant chasing an equalizer the game became quite stretched. Oaks were awarded a penalty corner as the whistle blew for the end of third quarter. Up stepped fan favourite Craig Wiid who caught hold of the flick and forced a good save from the Havant goalkeeper. Fortunately for Oaks, Scottish import Craig Morton pounced on the rebound and slotted the ball home to re-establish a two goal lead going into the final quarter.

Sevenoaks defended well in the fourth quarter and the game finished 5-3. Smiles all round from the Oaks players as they posted their first win on the board.

Sevenoaks welcome Oxford Hawks at Hollybush Lane this Saturday at 5pm.
