W1XI win 1-0 vs Bath

After an early start for the Sevenoaks Women’s 1XI, they made the long journey to Bath for the sixth game of the season. After a slightly rushed warm-up, Sevenoaks started the game with intensity, quickly putting Bath under pressure. Sevenoaks utilised the space down the wings well but despite several forays into the final 25 were unable to convert any opportunities. Bath kept Sevenoaks on their toes throughout with quick counters and eventually a short corner. A brilliant save from the Sevenoaks keeper Ruby, ensured Sevenoaks were still in the fight.

Despite Sevenoaks having had the majority of possession during the first half, no goals meant that they needed to head into the second-half with an attacking mindset. The pace of the second half was notably increased, and Sevenoaks were now looking far more threatening. As connections between the midfield and forwards became sharper, Sevenoaks were now able to carry the ball at speed into dangerous areas for Bath. Before too long, Sevenoaks had secured a short corner. Despite best-efforts, the ball was deflected just wide of the goal. Sevenoaks continued to play fast hockey, frequently penetrating the opposition’s D. After a few well-saved shots, Sevenoaks were awarded a second short corner. This time, there were no mistakes with Tash Brennan bringing the score to 1-0.

Sevenoaks continued to attack relentlessly in an effort to ensure a more comfortable score line but the Bath goalkeeper had other ideas, saving a particularly strong shot by Maddie Thompson from the top of the D. Bath had not given-up yet and a few breakaways meant that the Sevenoaks defence still had a job to do. Fortunately Bath’s efforts weren’t enough and Sevenoaks came away with a 1-0 win.
