A tense game against a strong Brombeck side

The U18 boys recommenced their season with an away trip to Bromley and Beckenham in the EH Cup. After a dominant first 10 minutes with plenty of chances Sevenoaks conceded a penalty corner. This corner was well saved by Walton but a second was conceded for a foot in the d. Brom Becks scored the second with a well placed drag flick into the goalkeepers bottom left hand corner. However, Oaks remained positive and moments later equalised with George Fisher squeezing the ball into the back of the net after a run down the baseline. The remaining minutes of the first half remained fairly even although Brom Becks were down to nine men and one point with both a green and yellow card. At half time Oaks believed they had a strong chance to win the game with discipline being a key factor. Oaks started the second half strongly attacking Brom Becks goal winning numerous corners but unfortunately none were scored. Oaks remained on top however Brom Becks remained dangerous on the counter attack with one opportunity coming close. With around 15 minutes to go Sevenoaks won a free hit in the 23 which was taken quickly by Cameron Dymond who passed it to Nemo. Nemo with his back to goal got a shot off quickly which was fortunately deflected into the back of the net to put Oaks 2-1 up. With around 10 minutes to go Oaks lost a little bit of discipline receiving two yellow cards in quick succession. This resulted in the momentum swaying towards Brom Becks who were looking dangerous in attack. Oaks managed to withstand this pressure well only conceding two penalty corners which were dealt with strongly by the Sevenoaks corner defence team. With Brom Becks attacking in the last minute the whistle was blown to signify a Sevenoaks win. Overall a good performance by the lads with each player playing an important part in the victory. Consequently, Oaks face a tough second round fixture at Hollybush Lane on the 6th June against either Eastbourne or Canterbury.
