Defence Rocks

Today's game was against the top of the league who have only been beaten twice. We went with 11 players so knew it was going to be a tough game. Thanks to Emma Grice for making her first game of the season and a return of Rhino we had a solid team ready to go. It was a pretty even match with both sides having shots and Herne Bay managing to get about 15 short corners but our super defenders, Jill, Rhino, Emma, Bully and keeper Hollie kept them at bay. Which meant lots of running back for Leanne, Jess, Lisa, Michelle, Sarah and Nicky. After about 20 mins Bully manage a run taking on some players before putting the ball in the far post (she was amazing lol) first goal of the season! The team continued to battle and were still 1-0 at half time. Into the second half and chances missed but the 6's stayed strong and focused. We knew we had 2 minutes to go and Herne Bay were pressing us. With 10 seconds to go a pass across the D was picked up and a good strike slipped passed us. Heart braking as the whistle went as we took the pushback straight after. It was a bitter pill to swallow as we had held on so well but we can't be too down hearted as we played an awesome game. At the beginning of the game a draw was seen as a great result, so we will take it. A big shout out to those today who played in different positions especially Lisa who played inner and did a great job. Our player of the match went to Gricey after some great blocks and defensive work. Closely followed by Bully, Jill and Leanne. Our Donkey today was a double header with Leanne (for her blondness) and Curling (for being so slippy). Amazing game girls hold your heads up high!!!!
