Sevenoaks 3 v 7 Surbiton

In the opening game of the weekend, Sevenoaks faced Surbiton, who have twice beaten Sevenoaks in the semi-final at finals day. Oaks made the best possible start when a slick move ended with a one-two between Sam George and Craig Haley, with the former slotting into the back of the net from a narrow angle to make it 1-0. That was how it remained until the end of the first quarter. Despite Surbiton twice being reduced to five men, Oaks couldn’t capitalise and eventually Surbiton hit back with two quick goals before the end of the second quarter to take a 2-1 lead into the half time break. In a tense third quarter Oaks drew level at 2-2 when David Smith converted a penalty corner, but Surbiton immediately responded with a goal of their own giving them a 3-2 lead. In their desperation to draw level again Oaks rushed their attacks and they conceded two quick fire goals at the end of third quarter to trail 5-2. Surbiton added a sixth midway through the final quarter making it 6-2 before Sam George reduces the deficit to 6-3. On the final whistle Surbiton won and converted a penalty corner to make the final score 7-3.
