Sevenoaks 1 v 4 East Grinstead

The first game of the final days play saw Oaks face defending champions East Grinstead. A cagey opening period saw neither side break the deadlock with the sides tied at 0-0 and it was midway into the second period before there was a goal when East Grinstead took a 1-0 lead from a neat finish after a goalmouth scramble. Oaks struggled to create clear cut chances and a patient East Grinstead just ground Oaks down, scoring a second goal at the end of the third quarter to take a 2-0 lead. Early in the last quarter East Grinstead added another to make it 3-0 and Oaks had to try and get back into the game, whilst also having to be mindful of goal difference and not getting beaten more heavily. They did manage to pull a goal back from Craig Haley making it 3-1, but the comeback was short lived as East Grinstead added a fourth extending their lead to 4-1. Oaks had a few late chances to reduce the deficit, but they couldn’t convert, and the final score ended 4-1 to East Grinstead. Unfortunately for Sevenoaks, influential defender Nick Barker injured his hand in the game and would be unable to play the final game.
