Sevenoaks Ladies’ 1st XI is looking forward to competing in the inaugural season of the Investec League Division 1 (South). Having been ever-present in the old Investec League East Conference for 10 years – with one championship & 5 runners up slots to its name – the squad is delighted to have qualified for the new Division 1, which will no doubt offer highly competitive games throughout the season.
The team and Club are fortunate to benefit from the experience of highly experienced & knowledgeable ex international players. Top level coaching to the 1st XI is currently delivered by triple South African Olympian, Jen Wilson, who is also the coach to the Senior Scotland Women’s squad. Under her direction the club can also call upon other resources to support the 1st XI; ex-GB captain, Sue Chandler, a long-standing club member and member of the General Committee; Ian Haley, another South African Olympian, is the newly appointed Men’s 1st XI Coach and will also be coaching the Ladies 2nd XI. Specialist GK coaching is offered by Fortitude’s Dave Sharp.
The goal for this season is to consolidate our position within Division 1 & to use the improved level of competition to develop our team further, with the ultimate ambition of targeting Premiership hockey. This season’s squad is made up of players who, between them, have amassed a high level of experience gained at playing in the elite levels of domestic and, in some cases, international hockey, together with a number of talented juniors. However, this will be a challenging league and there are other clubs in the league who share similar aspirations and who have recruited strongly over the summer. This promises to be another exciting and competitive campaign!
Indoors, the team plays in National Division 1 during the Winter break. In January 2019, the squad finished third, narrowly missing promotion to the Premier Division.
The club plays at Hollybush Lane where a top level ‘Tiger turf’ Astro pitch, laid in the summer of 2017, supports the highest standard of play, and where additional improvements to the facilities continue to be made.
The main training session takes place on Wednesday evenings, with a skill based session on Mondays.
The squad is keen to recruit players who are committed to joining a club which offers elite level hockey within an established environment of inclusivity, offering hockey for all levels.
