3. Operations Manager up to £13,400 pa

Sevenoaks Hockey Club is looking for a pro-active operations manager to help deliver its development strategy.

This brand new, part-time role (initially 15 hours a week), will be accountable to the Board and will be responsible for driving a range of projects informed by the club Development Plan. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape a new role and be involved in a number of exciting initiatives over the next 5 years.

The Operations Manager will manage two support staff, the Club Administrator and a Membership Secretary, supervising their activities and developing process improvements.

The Operations Manager will chair the Operations Committee, comprising volunteer representatives from key operational teams across the club. This committee will meet bi-monthly between August and June and will oversee operational activities across the club. These meetings may be held in evenings or at weekends.

This role would suit a project focused individual who is keen to help deliver against a strategic plan by implementing a series of projects to improve operational aspects of the club. Projects will be complete when they have successfully been handed over to the volunteer committees to operate.

In addition to overseeing new projects and initiatives, the Operations Manager will take overall responsibility for several #OneClub operational functions, delivering these either through volunteers, or where appropriate, contracted support staff:

  • Assessing pitch requirements to deliver hockey activities and ensuring these are booked strategically – developing strategic relationships with local schools who operate the bulk of these pitches.
  • Responsibility for safer recruitment practices across volunteers and paid coaches, ensuring that all relevant personnel receive and renew safeguarding training and DBS checks appropriate for their roles.
  • Oversight of membership retention, including new members and those leaving, protecting the club membership revenue and providing reports to the Board on key indicators at least quarterly.
  • Oversight of the coaching delivery team, including playing a key role in collating staffing requirements, writing adverts and coordinating the recruitment and onboarding process.

Person profile:

  • The successful candidate is expected to have the following attributes:
  • Ability to build successful working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including volunteers, schools and paid contractors.
  • Outcome focused, looking for ways to overcome obstacles to achieve the desired objectives within the financial and people resource constraints in place at any time.
  • Tenacity to persist with projects which may stall due to challenges caused by variable volunteer availability.
  • Process focused, with a desire to improve and document working practices so they can be executed by a constantly evolving volunteer workforce.
  • Analytical with the ability to take information from various data sources and use this to understand trends, and report on these to other parts of the club.
  • Commercially aware, with the ability to understand the economic viability of activities, and ideally with experience of negotiating contracts with various service providers.
  • Technically literate and interested in use of technology to solve problems, and able to oversee the implementation of new technology where it makes sense to do so.
  • Experience of change management in a large or diverse organization would be highly beneficial.

Sevenoaks Hockey Club is a registered Charity. Its strategic objective is to increase the participation of hockey in Sevenoaks and the surrounding areas. It currently achieves this through

  • Provision of club hockey for members from school year 1 and above,
  • Provision of open junior hockey courses during term times for years.
  • Provision of holiday camps open to the community
  • Provision of back to hockey and social hockey for adults
  • In-school coaching at local primary and secondary school
