About the team

Sevenoaks Men are one of the top indoor teams in the country having competed in the England Hockey National Premier League since 2013/14. In that time, Oaks have finished in the top four of the round-robin league phase on four occasions, earning them qualification for Finals Day – historically held at Wembley Arena or the CopperBox.

In spite of this recent success, Sevenoaks are still relatively new to the indoor game, having first entered at the very bottom of the England Hockey indoor competition structure in 2009/10. Within two years Oaks had blitzed through the Kent and South East qualifiers, and achieved successive promotions from Division 2 and Division 1 to join the elite in the Premier League, becoming a regular feature at England Hockey’s flagship “Super 6’s” Finals Day event. Thus far Sevenoaks have been unsuccessful in their four semi-final appearances, losing out to Canterbury, East Grinstead and Surbiton (twice), but hope to go one step further in the future!

A large reason for the sustained success has been a consistent core of the team, with homegrown players George Torry, Nick Barker and Chris Barker being near ever-present throughout this period. Their indoor journey started in 2007 when the Sevenoaks U16 boys side made it all the way to the National Final, where they narrowly lost out to The Perse School. Since then, they have helped the senior indoor side to become one of the most consistent indoor teams in the country. Now senior members of the side, they are role models for upcoming junior players, such as 18 year old Ben Fox and 16 year old Lewis Wilcher, who are playing in the National Premier League this season. Ben and Lewis are also members of the U18 boys team who recently qualified for the National Finals, so the future looks bright for the Sevenoaks indoor side.
